TITLE
Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $500, offset by the Second Council District One-time District Priority Funds, transferred from the Citywide Activities Department, to provide a donation to the African American Heritage Society of Long Beach; and

Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $500, to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.

DISCUSSION
The African American Heritage Society of Long Beach (AAHS) collects resources and funds to promote and preserve African American history, support African American genealogical research, and expand public awareness of these contributions for all. Founded in 1997, this year marks the 25th anniversary of AAHS in Long Beach. Their continued commitment to highlighting Black accomplishments benefits all of Long Beach.

AAHS recently hosted an event titled “Breaking Barriers: Sports Edition” on Saturday, February 19, 2022 with former NFL player and CSULB athlete Terrell Davis. This contribution supports a valuable event and can help support the development of future events that support the recognition and celebration of Black excellence in our community, in this case, Black excellence in athletics. It is appropriate for the City Council to support continuing programming by AAHS that celebrates Black excellence in all facets of achievement in our City.

FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation requests the City Manager Department to provide a contribution to African American Heritage Society of Long Beach for their virtual event “Breaking Barriers: Sports Edition” on February 19, 2022.
