TITLE
Recommendation to adopt Plans and Specifications No. R-6740 for installing and modifying traffic control signals at various locations; award the project; and authorize City Manager to execute all documents necessary to enter into a contract with California Professional Engineering in an estimated amount of $1,175,653, plus a 25 percent contingency of $293,913, if necessary and if funding is available, and to execute any necessary amendments thereto. DISCUSSION
The City Traffic Engineer is tasked with periodically conducting traffic investigations based on traffic flow changes, development within the City, and accident records. Those investigations ultimately result in recommendations for traffic control modifications to accommodate changes in traffic patterns and to enhance safety. The project before the City Council is a series of traffic signal improvements that were recommended by City traffic engineers as a result of such investigations.
The project will construct four new traffic signals, install left-turn arrows at three intersections, and modernize three other intersections with improved pedestrian facilities and enhanced operational capabilities. A summary of the traffic improvements is detailed below:
