DISCUSSION
Partnerships for Families (PFF) is an initiative of First 5 LA aimed at the prevention of child abuse. Focusing on pregnant women and high-risk families with children under five, the program includes direct prevention services, capacity building, performance monitoring and accountability. Within each of the County's eight Service Planning Areas (SPAs), a Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Regional Office area was targeted to receive program services during the first phase of funding. Within SPA 8, the DCFS. Torrance Office area was selected. Currently the DCFS Lakewood Office area, which includes the City of Long Beach, is currently targeted to receive funding in the upcoming grant year.

Since 1996, the City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) Center for Families and Youth has been an active participant in the SPA 8 Family Support Collaborative, coordinated by the South Bay Center for Counseling (SBCC). In 2006, First 5 LA was awarded the SPA 8 Collaborative PFF contract for the DCFS Torrance Office area. The National Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependence of South Bay (NCADD/SB) is serving as the Collaborative's Fiscal Lead Agency for this program, and SBCC is serving as the Program Lead Agency.
