TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Attorney to pay a sum of (1) $225,239.46 (less medical and dental insurance deductions, tax, and CalPERS contributions) in back pay for the period October 13, 2013 through August 28, 2014; and (2) interest on back pay in the amount of $4,750 in full final resolution of the involuntary disability retirement of David Shetland.
DISCUSSION
David Shetland has made a claim for involuntary industrial disability retirement and reinstatement of employment with the City of Long Beach. The case was heard by an Administrative Law Judge through the Long Beach Civil Service Commission, and the Judge ordered the City to reinstate David Shetland to employment. The settlement above reflects David Shetland's claim for back wages. The Economic Development and Finance Committee on December 19, 2014, approved the Settlement by and between the City and David Shetland based upon the provisions outlined in the settlement document.
