TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager to accept a vessel as a donation, which will be used by the Maintenance Operations Bureau of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine, to assist in the cleanup efforts of Rainbow Harbor, Shoreline Marina, Rainbow Marina, and Catalina Landing Basin. (District 2)
DISCUSSION
The City has received an offer to accept a donated vessel from Long Beach Yacht Sales.
The Maintenance Operations Bureau of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine has a need for a vessel to assist in the effort to keep the Rainbow Harbor, Shoreline Marina, Rainbow Marina, and Catalina Landing Basin free of floating debris.
It is estimated that the vessel has a value of approximately $5,000. Staff has inspected the vessel, and it is in good operating condition. It is recommended that the City accept this donation and obtain the vessel to assist in cleanup efforts.
This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Gary J. Anderson on February 5,2008, and Budget Management Officer Victoria Bell on February 6, 2008.
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on March 4, 2008, to complete the transfer and begin using this vessel, which is needed most during the rainy season.
FISCAL IMPACT
The vessel will be donated at no cost to the City. Maintenance costs will be paid on an asneeded basis from the operating budget in the Tidelands Fund (TF) in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PR).
SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.
Respectfully Submitted,
Phil T. Hester
Director of Parks, Recreation and Marine
