TITLE

Recommendation to authorize City Attorney to submit Compromise and Release for approval by the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board, and if so approved, authority to pay $85,000 in compliance with the Appeals Board Order for Gregory Brown.

DISCUSSION

Gregory Brown has made a claim for injuries sustained in the course of his employment with the City of Long Beach. After medical verification the claims were admitted. In order to expedite the proposed settlement and meet the deadlines for submission of council agenda items, this request for approval has been placed on the April 21, 2015 City Council agenda, the same day as the scheduled Economic Development and Finance Committee meeting. If the Economic Development and Finance Committee fails to meet or rejects or denies the proposed settlement of this item in the amount of $85,000.00 it will be pulled from the City Council agenda.

This settlement is recommended, as it releases the City's obligation to pay for future medical care.
