TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file travel report on attendance at the 2010 International Gay and Lesbian Leadership Conference in Washington D.C., December 1 - 8, 2010.
DISCUSSION
I attended the International Gay and Lesbian Leadership Conference at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C. from December 1 - 5, 2010 during which I participated in the following workshops: Municipal Finance in Difficult Economic Conditions; Assessing Change: What Do the 2010 Elections Tell Us; Education and Bullying: Tackling a Global Problem; Women's Roundtable; Report from Capitol Hill; and Practical Tools for Partnering with Diverse Communities. I also spoke with Fred Hochberg, Chairman of the US Export-Import Bank about his recent trip to the Port of Long Beach.
Following the Conference, I remained in Washington, D.C. to meet with: Robert Land, Director of Government Affairs, Jet Blue to discuss the upcoming Centennial of the First Transcontinental Flight from New York to Long Beach; Dik Daso, Curator of Modern Military Aircraft, Smithsonian Air and Space Museum; Congressional staff of Congresswoman Laura Richardson; and Ray Kaskey, Sculptor, National World War II Memorial. Kaskey is reproducing one of the bas-reliefs from the national memorial for placement at the Long Beach Rosie the Riveter Park and Interpretive Center in early 2011.
This trip was necessary and beneficial to the City of Long Beach.
The cost of the seminar was: $350.00.
The cost of the lodging and transportation was: $1129.22
