TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager to execute a contract and any subsequent amendments with the State of California Highway Patrol for use of the Long Beach Police Department Pistol Range for a period of three years for a total of $28,800. (District 5)
DISCUSSION
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) wishes to renew its agreement to use the Long Beach Police Department Pistol Range one day per month for regular weapons qualification for their sworn officers. The prior agreement expired June 30, 2010; the term of the new agreement will be from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2013. In keeping with the previous agreement, the CHP has agreed to pay $800 per month for use of the facility. Either party may terminate the agreement with thirty (30) days' written notice to the other party.
Due to its geographic diversity, the CHP contracts with local agencies throughout the State for use of ranges to qualify their personnel. The Long Beach Police Department Pistol Range is a convenient location due to its proximity to the south Los Angeles area office of the Highway Patrol.
This matter was reviewed by the Deputy City Attorney Gary Anderson and Budget Management Officer Victoria Bell on February 16, 2011.
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action on this matter is requested on March 15, 2011 to allow execution of a new agreement.
FISCAL IMPACT
This agreement will continue to provide a budgeted General Fund reimbursement of $9,600 annually for a total contract amount $28,800. There is no local job impact associated with this request.
