TITLE

Recommendation to request City Manager to conduct an inventory of beach and park space signage to determine if we have sufficient signage, and consider changes to sign locations and messages to make them more effective.

DISCUSSION

Long Beach is bordered by 5 ½ miles of beaches, and recently the maintenance of our beaches has created growing concerns due to illegal camping and debris left up and down our coastline. There have been issues of after hours and overnight beach usage leading to additional calls for police service and a need for additional beach clean up and maintenance resulting from this illegal usage.

In order to better confront these issues and the growing concerns they create in many communities, the City should look at what our existing signs are, where they are placed, and the messages they provide with the goal of determining if the signage is sufficient, and if there are ways of making the signage more effective.
