TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager to execute all necessary documents to receive and expend grant funding in the amount of $9,382 from the California Office of Emergency Services Paul Coverdell Forensic Sciences Improvement Grants Program; and
Increase appropriations in the General Grants Fund (SR 120) in the Police Department (PD) by $9,382. (Citywide)
DISCUSSION
The City of Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) was recently awarded the FY 16 Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Grants Program (Coverdell 16) in the amount of $9,382. The grant monies will be used to provide training to improve the skill level and efficiency of Forensic Science Services Division staff, who analyze crime scenes and evidence in support of investigations.
This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Monica J. Kilaita on April 27, 2017 and by Budget Management Officer Rhutu Amin Gharib on April 28, 2017.
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on May 23, 2017, to expedite the use of grant funds.
FISCAL IMPACT
This grant is currently unbudgeted. Therefore, an appropriation increase in the General Grants Fund (SR 120) in the Police Department (PD) in the amount of $9,382 is requested. Grant revenues will offset the expense appropriation and the grant does not require any matching funds. There is no local job impact associated with this recommendation.
