DISCUSSION

The Long Beach Section National Council of Negro Women is a community based non-profit organization involved in social, civic, and community service. Each year they host holiday clothing giveaways for those in need, provide empowerment seminars for women, and work to address issues of human welfare and civil rights. This is one of the eldest non-profit organizations in Long Beach striving to protect and preserve Black history. A contribution will assist them in their efforts to showcase Black history of Long Beach.

This matter was reviewed by Budget Manager Grace H. Yoon on November 24, 2020.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide a contribution to National Council of Negro Women to support the showcase of Black History of Long Beach. The total appropriation increase in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $5,000 is offset by the Sixth Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the Citywide Activities Department. Implementing this recommendation is anticipated to result in a minimal impact on staff hours beyond normal budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have a minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.
