TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager to execute agreement between the City of Long Beach and the City of Gardena to provide use of the Long Beach Fire Department training facility. (District 4)
DISCUSSION
The Gardena Police Department, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, is requesting use of the Fire Department (FD) Training Facility as part of their yearly
training that involves basic rappelling from the six-story training tower. This agreement will include training for approximately ten (10) sworn officers for approximately six hours. The one-time use of the FD Training Facility by the Gardena Police Department will not require any additional staff commitment nor interfere with any on-going training by the FD. The agreement requires the City of Gardena to indemnify the City of Long Beach and to provide evidence of insurance as required by the City's Risk Manager. Traditionally, the FD has supported partnerships with surrounding agencies, especially in the area of training. Relationships between agencies and departments are of mutual benefit. This item was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Christina Checel on March 22, 2005 and Budget Management Officer David Wodynski on March 23,2005.
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action on this matter is requested on April 5, 2005 to facilitate Gardena Police Department's request to conduct training on April 22, 2005.
