TITLE

Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $300, offset by the Fifth Council District One-Time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to provide a contribution to the Friends of the Long Beach Public Library to support their Celebrate Our Librarians event; and

Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $300 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.

DISCUSSION

Councilwoman Megan Kerr would like to provide a contribution to the Friends of the Long Beach Public Library to support their Celebrate Our Librarians event on August 18, 2023. The Friends of the Long Beach Public Library is a non-profit, membership group of library advocates. Their efforts provide materials, support summer reading programs, provide cultural and literary events for the community, and fund training for library staff. This event helps contribute to their ongoing mission.

This matter has been reviewed by Budget Analyst Joe R. Guerrero on August 1, 2023.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide a contribution of $300 to the Friends of the Long Beach Public Library in support the event as written above. The total appropriation increase of $300 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of Fifth Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. This recommendation is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond normal budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have a minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.  There is no local job impact associated with this recommendation.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,

MEGAN KERR, COUNCILWOMAN, FIFTH DISTRICT
