TITLE
Recommendation to adopt Plans and Specifications No. R-6682 for the Annual Contract for Street Striping, Pavement and Curb Markings, and Traffic Signing; and authorize City Manager to execute a contract with Traffic Operations, Inc., in an estimated amount of $500,000, for a one-year term with an option to renew for two additional one-year periods.

DISCUSSION
The work to be performed consists of furnishing and applying or installing street striping, pavement and curb markings, and traffic signs throughout the City on an "as needed"
basis. The contract provides for an "on call" arrangement, whereby the contractor will provide the City with a fixed unit price for the services described above. The City will issue work orders to the contractor with the assigned work to be completed within a specified period. Upon the successful completion of a given work order, additional work orders will be assigned until the available funding source has been depleted. The requested action authorizes the extension of the contract for up to two additional one- year terms, if both the City and the contractor agree to the extension and any unit price
increases, without exceeding the $500,000 contract amount plus 15 percent contingency. City Council adoption of the plans and specifications and award of the contract to the
lowest responsible bidder are being recommended concurrently to expedite contract implementation. The contract was advertised for bids on May 13, 2005, and bids were
opened on June 10, 2005. Additional information regarding the bid process is attached.
