TITLE
Recommendation to direct City Manager to study, and report back to Council within 90 days with recommendations for improving and enhancing, the signage at major entrances to the City.
DISCUSSION
The major entrances to Long Beach, such as the 22/7th street, Pacific Coast Highway at both the western and southeastern city boundaries, eastern 2nd street, Lakewood Blvd near the airport, major freeway exits, and others, serve as the first impression for many visitors to our City. Clear signage indicating the boundary of the City, and clean, attractive landscaping are important to projecting an accurate and positive image of Long Beach to visitors.
At the City Council retreat last year, Council discussed the possibility of a comprehensive assessment of the current entrances to Long Beach, and the ways they might be improved, including with new or enhanced signage and landscaping. Such an assessment would provide an opportunity for improving the first impression of our City and beautifying these corridors and neighborhoods.
FISCAL IMPACT
None.
SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.
Respectfully Submitted,
ROBERT GARCIA
MAYOR OF LONG BEACH
