TITLE

Recommendation to receive and file a presentation on the 2021 Independent Redistricting Commission for the City of Long Beach.  (Citywide)

DISCUSSION

On January 6, 2022, the 2021 Long Beach Independent Redistricting Commission (Commission) concluded its work. The new Council District Map, unanimously voted for adoption by the Commission on November 18, 2021, reflects the current interests of the Long Beach community and includes fair and equal representation from each district. The new Council District Map incorporates hundreds of recommendations from local community members derived from public comment testimonies, Communities of Interest Forms and map submissions, and partial and full district plan map submissions. The Commission approved a Final Report which includes an overview of its work to draft and finalize the maps and recommendations for future redistricting efforts. The Final Report was previously distributed to the Mayor and City Council and is included as Attachment A. The Final Report can also be accessed at www.longbeach.com/redistricting.

This was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Taylor M. Anderson and Budget Operations and Development Manager Rhutu Amin Gharib on January 24, 2022.
