TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager, or designee, to execute all necessary documents to receive and expend grant funding from the County of Los Angeles Real Estate Fraud Prosecution Program, for the period of July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018; and
Increase appropriations in the General Grants Fund (SR 120) in the Police Department (PD) by $72,467, offset by grant revenue. (Citywide)
DISCUSSION
On June 26, 2017, the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) was awarded grant funding for the ninth consecutive year from the County of Los Angeles through the Real Estate Fraud Prosecution Program (Real Estate 17) grant in the amount of $72,467. The grant provides funding for detective overtime hours assigned to real estate fraud investigation/prosecution, supplies and training.
This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Monica J. Kilaita and by Budget Management Officer Rhutu Amin Gharib on July 10, 2017.
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on August 8, 2017, to expedite the use of grant funds.
FISCAL IMPACT
This grant is currently unbudgeted. Therefore, an appropriation increase in the General Grants Fund (SR 120) in the Police Department (PD) in the amount of $72,467 is requested. Grant revenues will offset the expense appropriation and the grant does not require any matching funds. There is no local job impact associated with this recommendation.
SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.
