DISCUSSION
The California Department of Public Health, Office of Oral Health, established the California Oral Health Program (OHP) in July 2014. The program’s mission is to improve the oral health of all Californians through prevention, education, and organized community efforts. To achieve these goals, the OHP has been providing strategic advice and leadership to oral health stakeholders; building out oral health workforce capacity and infrastructure; implementing and evaluating evidence based best practices in oral disease prevention; and continuing support of local health jurisdictions involved in the initial Local Oral Health Program Grant Funding Initiative (term beginning January 1, 2017 and ending June 30, 2022), funded through California Healthcare, Research and Prevention Tobacco Tax Act of 2016.

The initial Local Oral Health Program Grant Funding Initiative has provided funding to the Health and Human Services Department (Health Department) to improve the oral health of the Long Beach community since January 2017. The Moving California Oral Health Forward Grant (term July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2027) will continue the work of the initial Local Oral Health Program Grant Funding Initiative.
