DISCUSSION
The Long Beach Police Department has established the reputation as a leader in the area of canine scent detection. This program has assisted in numerous successful criminal investigations, academic studies, and provided training to several law enforcement agencies.
 
Vohne Liche Kennels Canine Security, LLC wishes to contract with the Long Beach Police Department for an estimated annual amount of $250,000 for training services in canine scent detection for a one-year period with an annual option to renew. All costs, including indirect costs, will be reimbursed through monthly billings to Vohne Liche Kennels Canine, LLC. The agreement may be terminated with thirty (30) days written notice by either party.
 
This item was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Gary Anderson on November 3, 2008 and Budget Management Officer Victoria Bell on November 4, 2008.
 
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action on this matter is requested on December 9, 2008 to expedite this agreement.
 
FISCAL IMPACT
The anticipated annual cost of this program is not to exceed $250,000, which will be reimbursed by Vohne Liche, resulting in no net impact to the General Fund.
