TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file report on the 2006 National League of Cities Human Development Steering Committee Meeting in Vancouver, WA.
DISCUSSION
I would like to take this opportunity to report to the City Council on the National League of Cities Human Development Steering Committee Meeting in Vancouver, Washington on September 14, 2006 through September 16, 2006.
During this meeting the "No Child Left Behind Act" was addressed and the task force report was given. This meeting focused on Educational Reform and Health Care. Some of the panel speakers included a representative from the U.S. Department of Education and Dr. John W. Erickson, Superintendent of Vancouver schools. There was a session on Health Care that addressed long-term care costs and the flupandemic.
All issues covered during this meeting were of benefit to the City of Long Beach and will ensure that the needs of our city remain foremost with the National League of Cities.
