Title
Renewing Friendship City relations with City of Ensenada.
Discussion
The City of Long Beach and City of Ensenada established a "Friendship
City" relationship on May 28, 1996 by proclamation of the City Council. Prior to
the City's establishment of this relationship, the Port of Long Beach had
established a "Brother Ports" relationship on June 1, 1973 by resolution of the
Harbor Commission. The official relations between the two cities was
established to promote and expand the effective and mutually beneficial
cooperation between the people of Long Beach and the people of Ensenada.
The Sister Cities International website currently lists eight Long Beach
Sister Cities affiliations and one Friendship City affiliation, the City of
Guadalajara, Mexico. It has come to my attention that members the community
would like to re-establish the Friendship Cities relationship between Long Beach
and the City of Ensenada. However, bylaws adopted by Sister Cities of Long
Beach, Inc. in 2002, may have impacted the ability to re-establish this previously
productive relationship.
