Recommendation to receive and file the Sixth Annual Fifth District Library Round-Up.
DISCUSSION
Over the past six years, the Fifth District Library Round-Up has encouraged residents, schools, PT A's and businesses to "round-up" their spare change during the month of April to help the two branch libraries (Ruth Bach and EI Dorado) purchase additional materials. The round up this year coincides with National Library Week, sponsored by the American Library Association, who's theme will be "You Belong at Your Library", where libraries across the country host programs and events to showcase the variety of resources they offer people of all ages.
Coin containers, with labels explaining the purpose of the project, were distributed to local fifth district businesses and over $1000.00 was collected this year.
The following businesses participated in the Sixth Annual Library Round Up: Bodell's Shoes, Cirivello's Sports Bar, Curves, Farmer's Insurance, Fast Frame, Go Dogs Go, Kidz Head 2 Toe Resale Boutique, Once Read Books, EI Dorado Restaurant, Poochie's Bath House, Postal Annex, Apostrophe Books, Office of Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske, and City of Long Beach - Legislative Department.
