TITLE

Recommendation to request City Attorney to draft an ordinance creating a small business enterprise (SBE) recruitment pilot program for the Departments of Public Works; Parks, Recreation and Marine; and the Long Beach Gas and Oil.

DISCUSSION

In an effort to increase participation of small business enterprises (SBE), particularly businesses located in the City of Long Beach, it is requested that the City Attorney draft an ordinance creating a one-year pilot program for SBE recruitment for the specified departments.

The one-year pilot program will require the Departments of Public Works; Parks, Recreation, and Marine; and the Long Beach Gas and Oil Company to meet a 20% SBE participation rate for procurement and contracting of services. The 20% participation rate shall be broken down to 10% general SBE participation, 5% local small-business enterprise (LSBE) participation, and 5% very small business enterprise (VSBE) participation.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.
