TITLE

DISCUSSION
On June 3, 2016, under the supervision of the National Labor Relations Board the workers at the Southeast Resource Recovery Facility voted 80% in the affirmative to join the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 11.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LONG BEACH TO DECLARE SUPPORT FOR THE LABOR NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN COVANTA AND IBEW LOCAL 11

WHEREAS, IBEW 11 represents over 12,000 Electricians, Communications and Systems Installers, Transportation Systems Journeyman, Civil Service Electricians, Apprentices, Construction Wireman and Construction Electricians across Los Angeles County; and

WHEREAS, during an election supervised by the National Labor Relations Board 80% of the employees of the Southeast Resource Recovery Facility voted in the affirmative to join the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 11; and

WHEREAS, The City of Long Beach has a strong record of standing with working men and woman who choose labor representation; and

WHEREAS, the Southeast Resource Recovery Facility is an asset to the City of Long Beach which recycles over 825 tons of metal each month that would otherwise go to landfills; and

WHEREAS, the Southeast Resource Recovery Facility supports our public safety by safely destroying 17,000 pounds of narcotics each month:
