TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager, or designee, to execute all necessary documents and any subsequent amendments with First 5 LA to accept grant funds for the Engaging Fathers Investment Program, in an amount not to exceed $160,627, for the period of January 1, 2017 through December 31, 2018; and
Increase appropriations in the Health Fund (SR 130) in the Health and Human Services Department (HE) by $80,314, offset by reimbursement grant revenue. (Citywide)
DISCUSSION
First 5 LA has awarded the City of Long Beach a grant of up to $160,627 under their Engaging Fathers Investment Program to establish a Father-Friendly Long Beach (FFLB) network from January 1, 2017 through December 31, 2018. First 5 LA’s Engaging Fathers Investment is intended to further enhance the City’s current Life Coaching and Fundamentals of Fatherhood Project (LCFFP), which is federally funded by the Office of Family Assistance’s New Pathways for Fathers and Families. The FFLB complements the goals and objectives of the LCFFP by setting forth the momentum necessary to achieve our long-term outcome of establishing a Fatherhood Response Network in the City of Long Beach.
The FFLB network will be comprised of consumers, local non-profit organizations, and public institutions that will develop father-friendly guidelines that encourage institutional changes to create a father-friendly city. The primary goals of the FFLB network are to: 1) transform the City of Long Beach into a father-friendly environment that strengthens family protective factors; and 2) increase the connection between social and health services, leading to greater access to services for all fathers.
