TITLE

Recommendation to approve the use of the Seventh Council District's one-time infrastructure funds transferred from the Capital Projects Fund (CP) in the Public Works Department (PW) into the Legislative Department (LD) operating budget in the amount of $50,000 to support these arts initiatives; and

Increase appropriation in the General Fund (GF) in the Legislative Department (LD) by $50,000.

DISCUSSION

The Arts Council for Long Beach is partnering with the City of Long Beach, Council District 7 on an arts initiative. Currently, in partnership with Centro Cha, students in West Long Beach are being taught how to play indigenous instruments such as the pan pipe and drums at our local parks. We would like to expand this initiative to also include mural and public art programs in the Seventh District to allow the residents in our community to experience additional arts programming in their neighborhoods.

The cultural and artistic murals emerging around Long Beach help bring our diverse communities together and enhance civic pride and investment in our neighborhoods. These funds will be used to support the creation of additional murals, and other arts programming throughout the district.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS

[Timing Considerations]

FISCAL IMPACT

[The total appropriation increase of $50,000 in the Legislative Department (LD) budget is offset by a transfer of one-time infrastructure funds to the General Fund from the Capital Projects Fund (CP) in the Public Works Department (PW).

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,
