TITLE
Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $500, offset by the First Council District One-time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to provide a contribution to Centro Cha to help provide assistance to victims of violent crime; and
Decrease appropriation in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $500 to offset a transfer to City Manager Department.
DISCUSSION
Centro Cha has a 30-year track record of supporting the Latinx community within Long Beach and has been working to support victims of violent crime. Recently, the organization has been a resource and advocate for the victims of violent crime and their families within the First District.
This contribution is a matching amount promised by a non-profit called New Generation and provides funding to help Centro Cha continue to assist the community.
This matter was reviewed by Budget Manager Grace H. Yoon on August 9, 2020.
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
The assistance being offered by the Sixth Council Office and matched by our non-profit partners are needed urgently in order to support victims and their families from the financial effects of violent crimes, including loss of wages.
FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide a contribution to Centro Cha who has been working with families affected by violent crime within the First District. The total appropriation increase in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $500 will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of the First Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund in the Citywide Activities Department. Implementing this recommendation is anticipated to result in a minimal impact on staff hours beyond normal budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have a minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.
SUGGESTED ACTION
