DISCUSSION
The City Manager's Office of Special Events and Filming will be organizing the Martin Luther King Jr Day Parade and Festival on behalf of the Sixth Council District on January 15, 2022 at Martin Luther King Jr. Park.
The annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade and Festival has become a tradition that celebrates the diverse community of central Long Beach. This parade and festival serves as a way to honor and keep alive the many values of Dr. King through arts, remembrance and cultural learnings. This year the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade and Festival will celebrate its 34th year in Long Beach, and its return after more than a year of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Sixth Council District Office is currently seeking private donations to offset the costs associated with the festival. The Sixth Council District will engage in fundraising efforts to support this event. If funds are raised, an equal amount, up to $59,000, of District Priority funds allocated to this event through this recommendation will be returned to the Sixth Council District One-time District Priority funds.
This matter has been reviewed by Budget Manager Grace H. Yoon on October 8, 2021.
