TITLE

Recommendation to authorize City Manager, or designee, to execute an agreement, and any subsequent amendments, with the City of Los Angeles Harbor Department to provide training opportunities at the Regional Maritime Law Enforcement Training Center, at no cost to the City of Long Beach, commencing upon full execution of the agreement for a term of three years.  (Citywide)

 

DISCUSSION

City Council approval is requested to enter into an agreement with the City of Los Angeles Harbor Department to facilitate training opportunities at the Regional Maritime Law Enforcement Training Center (RMLETC).  This agreement will establish the relationship and responsibilities between the City of Los Angeles Harbor Department and the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) at the RMLETC.  By entering into this agreement, both parties are committed to partner to develop training strategies for the protection of  people, waterways and ports, provide access to a law enforcement marine training facility, and provide law enforcement training opportunities for federal, state, local, rural, tribal, territorial and other law enforcement agencies. 

 

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Monica J. Kilaita on May 18, 2016 and Budget Operations Administrator Grace Yoon on May 24, 2016.                                          

                     

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS

City Council action is requested on June 21, 2016, to ensure that the agreement is in place expeditiously.

There is no fiscal or local job impact associated with this recommendation.
