TITLE

Recommendation to authorize City Manager, or designee, to execute an agreement, and any necessary amendments, with the City of Cypress, a municipal corporation, for the use of the Cypress Shooting Range, in an amount not to exceed $10,000, for a term through December 31, 2017.  (Citywide)

DISCUSSION

City Council approval is requested to enter into an agreement with the City of Cypress for the use of the Cypress Shooting Range (Range).

The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) Pistol Range is under construction and not available for practice or firearms qualifications.  The current anticipated date of project completion is December 2017.  The use of the Range will allow armed Airport Special Services Officers to practice and maintain compliance with LBPD qualification standards. Upon completion of construction, the LBPD Pistol Range will be reopened and available for all firearms training.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Richard F. Anthony on July 10, 2017 and by Revenue Management Officer Geraldine Alejo on July 3, 2017.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS

City Council action is requested on August 8, 2017, to ensure the contract is in place expeditiously, to maintain compliance with LBPD qualification standards.

FISCAL IMPACT

Under this agreement, use of the Cypress Shooting Range by Airport Special Services Officers will not exceed $10,000 for the term of the agreement.  The cost for this agreement is budgeted in the Airport Fund (EF 320) in the Airport Department (AP).  There is no local job impact associated with this recommendation.
