TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file report on attendance at the National League of Cities 2007 Annual Congressional City Conference in Washington, DC.
DISCUSSION
On March 10-14, 2007, I attended the National League of Cities (NLC) 2007 Annual Congressional City Conference in Washington, DC.
NLC is a non-profit association of cities and state municipal leagues. The organization advocates on behalf of cities in Washington DC, provides programs and services to local municipalities, and keep members informed of critical issues affecting municipalities. Through its advocacy and information programs, NLC has helped strengthen and promote the governance, leadership and opportunities in cities.
The NLC 2007 Annual Congressional City Conference was an outstanding opportunity to learn about congressional issues affecting municipalities, present a strong unified voice, develop and strengthen relationships with members of Congress, and advocate local positions on key priorities.
I attended the policy development seminar for the FAIR Committee; met with Congressmen Oberstar, McKeon and Schiff regarding transportation and infrastructure needs, the transit security bill, and goods movement; and obtained valuable information on other pertinent issues such as telecommunications reform, emergency preparedness and response, and funding for affordable housing.
SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.
Respectfully Submitted,
BONNIE LOWENTHAL, VICE MAYOR
