DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to amend Contract No. 36397 with Innovative Design, for new vehicle preparation services and component preassembly for Police and Fire Department vehicles. This amendment will add funds and extend the term of the existing contract for an additional year, while new emergency response vehicles are scheduled to be delivered and outfitted.

The existing contract was approved by the City Council on July 19, 2022, by Resolution 22-0123, for a period of one year, with a contract amount not to exceed $95,000. Since execution of the contract, the automotive industry has experienced global delays due to supply chain shortages, causing emergency response vehicle delivery delays beyond what was originally forecasted. An amendment to the revised contract amount and contract term period is needed at this time to ensure that the Fleet Services Bureau (Fleet) is able to place public safety vehicles in service in a timely manner. Work under this contract is generally overflow work primarily due to a heavy backlog in the City of Long Beach’s (City) outfitting operations due to increased volume and staffing shortages.

Innovative Design will provide fabrication services and installation as needed for items including ancillary equipment, electronic vehicle harnesses, and computer boards.
