DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into a contract with California Boring, Inc. (Cal Bore), for directional drilling, potholing, sewer locating and clearing. Cal Bore will provide the drill rig, support equipment, and qualified personnel to install polyethylene or steel natural gas pipe by horizontal directional drilling and pipe placement at various locations within the City of Long Beach’s (City) natural gas service territory. Cal Bore will provide sewer locating and inspection of below ground sewer laterals in streets and on customer property and potholing services at various substructures, using keyhole technology.

The bid was advertised in the Long Beach Press-Telegram on January 5, 2022, and 60 potential bidders specializing in construction services were notified of the bid opportunity. Of those bidders, six downloaded the bid via the City’s electronic bid system. The bid document was made available from the Purchasing Division, located on the sixth floor of City Hall, and the Division’s website at www.longbeach.gov/purchasing . A bid announcement was also included in the Purchasing Division’s weekly update of Open Bid Opportunities, which is sent to 39 local, minority-owned, and women-owned business groups.
