Recommendation to authorize City Manager to execute the Social Program Agreement with the County of Los Angeles, Board of Supervisors, for a donation of $2,000 for the Long Beach Cares Campaign and accept the donation for Long Beach, Mississippi.  (Citywide)

DISCUSSION
On August 25, 2005, Hurricane Katrina sent waves as high as 30 feet slamming into Long Beach, Mississippi, a city of almost 17,000. Many buildings were destroyed and some had permanent water and structural damage. In response to the devastation, the City Council adopted a resolution on October 11, 2005, in support of Long Beach, Mississippi and a campaign was launched.

The campaign, Long Beach Cares: Long Beach, CA, Helping Long Beach, MS, was initiated to raise awareness and funds to assist Long Beach, Mississippi. As a result of the generosity of residents and businesses, donations have exceeded $50,000. The City has received a pledge of $2,000 from Supervisor Don Knabe. In order to accept the pledge, the Board of Supervisors' Social Program Agreement needs to be executed by the City. The funds received from Supervisor Don Knabe will be forwarded to Long Beach, Mississippi.

This letter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Lori A. Conway on April 3, 2007, and Performance Management Bureau Manager David Wodynski on April 4,2007.
