TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager to execute all necessary documents to receive and expend grant funding from the State of California Governor's Office of Emergency Services Coverdell Forensic Sciences Improvement Program grant, and increase appropriations in the General Grants Fund (SR 120) and in the Police Department (PD) by $12,625. (Citywide)
DISCUSSION
On September 1, 2006, the City of Long Beach Police Department received a $12,625 grant from the State of California Governor's Office of Emergency Services Coverdell Forensic Sciences Improvement Program grant. The purpose of the grant is to improve the quality and timeliness of forensic science services over current operations by allowing forensic staff to receive training and materials to keep skill-sets current.
This item was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Richard Anthony on October 10, 2006 and Budget Management Officer David Wodynski on October 13, 2006.
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action on this matter is requested on October 24, 2006, to expedite use of the grant funds.
FISCAL IMPACT
As these grant funds are currently unbudgeted, an appropriation increase is included in the recommendation. The expense appropriation will be offset by grant revenues. The grant does not require matching. There is no impact to the General Fund.
SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.
