TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager to execute Amendment No. 1 to Contract No. 29642 with DMJM + Harris, Inc., to increase the contract amount by $1,500,000. (Citywide)
DISCUSSION
On June 13, 2006, City Council approved a contract with DMJM + Harris, Inc. (DMJM), for $1,500,000 for a three-year term to provide as-needed engineering and landscape architecture design services and for the preparation of construction documents for Public Works. The work includes pavement restructuring and reconstruction on public streets, correction of surface drainage deficiencies, storm drain improvements, alley repair, streetscape improvements, roadway medians, landscaping and irrigation.
Due to the higher than expected utilization of DMJM's services, the Public Works Department has exhausted its allocation under the contract. DMJM provided engineering services for many street improvement projects, storm drain projects, and roadway median work. Since Public Works anticipates utilizing DMJM's services for more design work during the remainder of the contract term, staff proposes to increase DMJM's contract amount to $3,000,000 to cover the cost of such work.
This item was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Lori Conway on November 16, 2007 and by Budget Management Officer Victoria Bell on November 19, 2007.
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action on this matter is requested on December 18, 2007 to permit work on local streets and storm drain projects to continue in a timely manner.
FISCAL IMPACT
Sufficient funds to cover the cost of DMJM's services are budgeted in various projects in the Department of Public Works (PW) and the Department of Community Development (CD). An appropriation increase is not necessary.
