TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file report on impact of Project IMPACT on Almond Avenue.
 
DISCUSSION
The 400 Block of Almond Avenue in the 2nd District was the scene of several shootings - and multiple homicides - in 2004. In response to this criminal activity, a multi-department and agency group worked to combat the causes of the criminal activity in the area. The City Prosecutor's Office, the Long Beach Police Department, the Housing Authority and others worked to clean up the area. In addition, City Light and Power installed new brighter lights to increase visibility in the area. The results have been a dramatic reduction in crime and
calls for service
 
I have asked our City Prosecutor Tom Reeves to come and give a brief report about this effort and its impact.
