TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file report on attendance at the NOISE Conference and Aviation Noise Symposium.
DISCUSSION
On September 20-22, 2006, I attended the 36th Annual N.O.I.S.E. Conference and Aviation Noise Symposium in Burlingame, California.
N.O.I.S.E. stands for National Organization to Insure a Sound-Controlled Environment, and is an affiliate of the National League of Cities. N.O.I.S.E. is a coalition of locally elected officials and industry stakeholders working cooperatively with local and federal government to find workable solutions to the issue of excessive airport noise.
At the conference, I attended seminars on a number of relevant topics affecting our neighborhoods, including airport noise legal issues, airport land use planning, and airport/community noise mitigation efforts. I also had the opportunity to meet with officials from other California cities with neighborhoods impacted by airport noise and learned more about their programs, such as the San Diego Quieter Home Program.
Councilwoman Reyes Uranga and I will be preparing a more detailed report and recommendation to present to the Council within the next 30 days.
SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.
Respectfully Submitted,
Councilwoman Rae Gabelich, Eighth District
