TITLE
Recommendation to request City Manager to work with appropriate staff to update the City Council on the effort to allow residents the opportunity to secure permits online and identify further service areas that may be conducted online.

DISCUSSION
In an effort to further provide modern, efficient and resident friendly service delivery, the City of Long Beach should continue to look for ways to conduct city business online, saving residents time and the hassle of an extended trip to City Hall. The private sector, and to a smaller extent government, has long recognized the value and efficiency of conducting business online. The City of Long Beach should be no different.

In December of 2009, at the request of my office, the Departments of Technology Services and Financial Management initiated an effort to allow residents to secure residential preferential parking permits and garage sale permits online. Working with Tech Services, we believe we will be able to utilize a viable technology to do this. I am confident these initiatives will save residents time, money and allow better tracking of these permits.

Respectfully Submitted,
