TITLE
Recommendation to approve Mayor's designees as argument writers for the two Long Beach ballot measures appearing on the November 8, 2016 California Statewide Election ballot.
DISCUSSION
On July 12, the City Council gave approval to a ballot measure, "Regulation of Medical Marijuana Businesses" submitted by voter petition. On August 2, the City Council approved another ballot measure, the "Marijuana Business License Tax", authored by the Council. Both initiatives will appear on the November 8,2016 California Statewide Election ballot.
Per the Long Beach Municipal code, argument writers are designated by the Mayor, with the approval of the City Council.
The application period closes Monday, August 8 at 5pm and the Mayor's designated writers will be presented at City Council August 9.
