TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file report on attendance at the 10th Annual Conference of the International Association of Cities and Ports in Sydney, Australia.

DISCUSSION
During November 2-10, 2006, I attended the 10th Annual Conference of the International Association of Cities and Ports in Sydney, Australia.

The International Association of Cities and Ports is an association of nearly 180 ports, cities, business firms and public organizations from 32 countries that work together to improve the relationship between ports and cities, including addressing issues of urban development, sustainable development and environmental stewardship.

The conference included discussions of critical economic, social and environmental challenges to port cities. Leading experts and city leaders provided information on the partnerships between cities and ports, including: a review of the potential of new technologies to reduce truck emissions; exploration of systems to improve the safety of port truckers; compliance with international regulations on maritime trade; the integration of risks, noise and light pollution, traffic density for a better quality of life; environmental policies and the measures taken to ensure monitoring; making port functions and urban waterfronts cohabit, and much more .
