TITLE

(District 1)

DISCUSSION
On September 20, 2005, City Council authorized acceptance of a land donation from the Mary R. Molina Living Trust (Trust) for a parcel located at the southeast corner of 20th Street and Santa Fe Avenue, also known as 1640 West 20th Street (Property), as shown on the Attachment. The Property was accepted for the purposes of open space and has since been developed into the Mary Molina Community Gardens, which is managed and administered by Long Beach Organic, Inc., pursuant to Lease No. 32232. Subsequent to the acceptance, the City leased approximately 8.5 feet of adjacent vacant land from the Trust, to add to the gardens as additional open space (Subject Property) and incorporated the addition into the Lease. The Trust is now in the process of selling its remaining adjacent parcels and has expressed an interest in donating the Subject Property to the City for permanent addition to the community gardens.

Pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act, Categorical Exemption, CE 14-073 was completed related to the proposed transaction and was filed on August 6, 2014.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Richard F. Anthony on August 7, 2014 and by Budget Management Officer Victoria Bell on August 15, 2014.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on September 2, 2014 in order to facilitate the sale of the Trust’s additional property.

FISCAL IMPACT
The recommended action will have no fiscal impact on the General Fund (GP). Ongoing maintenance of the community gardens is managed by Long Beach Organic, Inc.
