TITLE
Recommendation to request City Manager to evaluate the cost vs. benefits of installing video cameras on our street sweeping vehicles.

DISCUSSION
In 2010, the state legislature passed (AB 2567) that allows cities to install video cameras on street sweeping vehicles and to require that tickets cannot be issued if the video does not indicate that the vehicle was present when the street sweeper attempted to sweep.

This new legislation accomplishes two improvements for the city and our residents:

1) Tickets for violations of vehicles being parked "illegally" will only be issued if the vehicle is actually parked on the street at the exact time the street sweeper is present (as opposed to issuing tickets for anytime the vehicle is parked during posted street sweeping hours); and

2) Use of cameras minimizes the use of staff and vehicles to issue citations.

SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,
