DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into a contract with Ruiz Concrete & Paving. The street infrastructure on Magnolia Avenue, between Ocean Boulevard and 4th Street, is in need of rehabilitation. Improvements include sections between Ocean Boulevard to Broadway and 3rd Street to 4th Street. The rehabilitation work consists of replacing damaged curbs and gutters, driveways, alley entrances, sidewalk and the trimming or shaving of tree roots; reconstructing areas of deteriorated pavement; cold milling and resurfacing the pavement; ADA compliance improvements; installing a bus pad, traffic striping, markings, and markers; traffic control; water quality best management practices; and related improvements. The section between Broadway and 3rd Street was recently completed as part of the Deukmejian Courthouse off-site improvements. A vicinity map showing the project location is attached.

This project was advertised in the Press-Telegram on May 16, 2014, and 2,805 potential bidders, specializing in construction, were notified of the bid opportunity. Of those bidders, 61 sets of bid documents were purchased or downloaded via the electronic bid system.
