TITLE
Bus stop installations on the northwest corner of Pine Avenue at Seaside Way and the south side of Golden Shore behind the Catalina Landing Parking Structure, and the relocation of an existing bus stop at the Long Beach Airport. (Districts 2,5)

DISCUSSION
The Traffic and Transportation Bureau received written requests from Long Beach Transit to establish bus stops on the northwest corner of Pine Avenue at Seaside Way and the south side of Golden Shore behind the Catalina Landing Parking Structure. Long Beach Transit is requesting a new bus stop at the Pine Avenue and Seaside Way intersection, in conjunction with a proposed change to Passport Route "C." This bus stop serves as a transfer point to the "Link" service, which operates between the Queen Mary, Rainbow Harbor, downtown and the Convention Center. Long Beach Transit is also requesting a new bus stop on Golden Shore behind the Catalina Landing Parking Structure in order to enhance access to the Passport "A" and "0" routes.

In addition, the Airport Bureau has submitted a request to Long Beach Transit to relocate a bus stop at the Long Beach Airport from its current location on Donald Douglas Drive to an alternate location on Old Lakewood Boulevard, immediately east of the airport parking structure, due to accumulating congestion on Donald Douglas Drive adjacent to the terminal and security issues, and to enhance bus service.

An investigation by City staff concluded that no unusual conditions would result from the installation of the requested bus stops or the relocation of the existing bus stop. Therefore, staff has no objections to this proposal. Vicinity maps are attached with the subject locations highlighted for clarity.

This letter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Lisa Pes kay Malmsten on April 13, 2004 and Budget Manager Michael Killebrew on March 1, 2004.
