DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into a contract with Sully-Miller Contracting Company for street improvements. The street infrastructure on Bixby Road between Atlantic Avenue and Orange Avenue is in need of rehabilitation. The rehabilitation work consists of replacing damaged curbs, gutters, sidewalks, alley entrances and driveways; trimming and root shaving trees; reconstructing areas of deteriorated pavement; cold milling and resurfacing the pavement; and installing pavement markers, markings, traffic striping, signing and curb paint. The project was advertised in the Press-Telegram on March 19, 2015 and 3,344 potential bidders specializing in street construction were notified of the bid opportunity. Of those notified, 78 downloaded the bid via the electronic bid system. The bid document was made available from the Purchasing Division, located on the Seventh Floor of City Hall, and the Division’s website at www.longbeach.gov/purchasing . A bid announcement was also included in the Purchasing Division’s weekly update of Open Bid Opportunities, which is sent to 30 local, minority and women-owned business groups.
