Recommendation to authorize City Manager to execute all documents necessary to amend Contract No. 31808 with BMC Software, Inc., of Houston, TX (not a MBE, WBE, SBE, or Local), extending the contract for providing workload automation software licenses and technical support services for one year, in the amount of $145,000, with the option to renew for two additional one-year periods, with a five percent contingency for price increases, at the discretion of the City Manager. DISCUSSION
City Council approval is being requested to authorize the City Manager to execute an amendment to the contract with BMC Software, Inc. (BMC), extending the term for one year,with the option to renew for two additional one-year periods for providing workload automation software licenses and technical support services.
The Technology Services Department (TSD) manages approximately 400 servers and an enterprise mainframe server. These servers run approximately 300 business information systems including financial management, budget preparation, human resources, payroll, and billing systems. Managing and scheduling the workload across these servers requires a workload automation solution. Our application software would not operate properly without this type of solution. It ensures processing occurs on time and without error.
In June 2010, the City of Long Beach issued a request for proposals for server workload automation software and technical support services. BMC Software, Inc. was the only proposal received. BMC was selected to provide software licenses and technical support services. Pursuant to the approved contract, the contract was renewed twice and the current term will expire on September 30, 2013 with no further contract renewals available.
