Recommendation to receive and file the report provided at the
April 15, 2014, City Council meeting regarding the next steps in the rebuild of Basins 2 and 3 in the Alamitos Bay Marina. (District 3)
DISCUSSION
In February 2010, the City of Long Beach (City) embarked on the rebuild of the Alamitos Bay Marina (ABM). Through the Request for Proposal process, the City selected Bellingham Marine Industries, Inc. (BMI), for the design, engineering, and construction of the project. Due to the magnitude of the ABM rebuild project, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) and BMI agreed to segregate each basin rebuild into phases. Since the inception of the rehabilitation project, PRM has returned to the City Council for authorization to act upon any other phases upon identification of needed funding. To date, Basin 4 (Phase 1) has been completed, Basin 1 (Phase 2) has been completed, and Basin 5 (Phase 3) was completed on March 27, 2014. Funding for these phases was provided through a combination of loans from the State Department of Boating and Waterways and accumulated capital in the Marina Fund.
On March 4, 2014, the City Council requested a status report be provided at the April 15, 2014, City Council meeting regarding the next steps in the Alamitos Bay Marina rehabilitation project, specifically the rebuild of Basins 2 and 3.
This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Kendra L. Carney and Budget Management Officer Victoria Bell on April 2, 2014.
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on April 15, 2014, in order to ensure the continued progress of the Alamitos Bay Marina rebuild.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact or local job impact associated with the submission of the status report.

Approve recommendation.
