DISCUSSION
City Council approval is being requested to enter into a contract for the purpose of 14 Ford F-150 half-ton trucks with customized customer service beds installed.

Fleet Services Bureau of the Department of Public Works has an immediate need to purchase 14 Ford F-150 half-ton trucks for the Department of Gas and Oil, Customer Service Division, as part of the City's multi-year vehicle replacement plan. This purchase will replace 14 varied larger-sized service bed trucks ranging from 9-13 years in age. The budgeted replacement cycle of this type vehicle is nine years. The downsizing of these and other large vehicles has been an ongoing project between the Department of Gas and Oil and the Fleet Services Bureau, with the objective to decrease fuel consumption and achieve fleet uniformity within the Department.

The bid was advertised on March 5, 2007, and 78 potential bidders specializing in customized Ford F-150 half-ton trucks chose to download the bid: 17 are Minority-owned Business Enterprises (MBEs); seven are Women-owned Business Enterprises (WBEs); 30 are Long Beach businesses; and seven are certified Small Business Enterprises (SBEs). The bid document was made available from the Purchasing Division, located on the Plaza Level of City Hall, and the Division's website at www.longbeach.gov/purchasinq. A bid announcement was also included in the Purchasing Division's weekly update of Open Bid Opportunities, which is sent to 32 local, minority, and women's business groups. Bids were opened on March 15,2007. Ford West of Bellflower, CA, is the lowest responsible bidder.
