BODY
Long Beach unveiled its first Solar-Powered Fire Station on Saturday, August 27, 2005. Station 8 in Belmont Shore is now the city's first Fire Station equipped with photovoltaic panels that produce clean and sustainable energy. The Third District Council Office contacted British Petroleum about funding a solar demonstration project about a year and a half ago and BP agreed to fund the $30,000 project and installation. The new solar powered building is a big step for our Fire Department and our city. Long Beach needs to start looking at all available opportunities to
encourage the use of solar energy. Our city, with our frequent sunshine can
become a healthier and sustainable city through a stronger commitment to clean sources of energy.
